WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL

Another round of champion’s league and by the end of this week we will have an incline of an idea on who goes through to the next stages.

Today one of the most anticipated matches takes place at the Emirates stadium in England where Arsenal FC takes on FC Barcelona. Today also we have last season’s finalists Juventus FC and German giants Bayern Munich playing in Stadio delle Alpi Italy.

Four fantastic clubs for an epic night of champions league football. Does arsenal have what it takes to stop the most lethal front three in football since last season? Or do MSN have other ideas..? notably in some ways Arsenal have been a thorn in Barcelona’s side so maybe this will be the day they rise up to do some damage..but yet again those are very slim odds.

Players to watch out for in Arsenal comprise of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Peter Cech and for Barcelona I would say their whole team considering their performance this season and record of not losing a game yet. The same goes for Bayern Munich who is also eight (8) points ahead of second place. Although Juventus plan on making themselves a dominant force in champions league football.

Funny thing is I guess I got to understand soccer better by watching a movie about a coach of an American high school football team. This team De La salle went all the way winning a hundred and fifty one straight games..amazing before losing a game. The statements the coach Bob Ladouceur made stuck with me. He said “it is not just a football team; it’s a family, a brotherhood based on hardwork and in love. Put simply love means you can count on me in good times and in bad” also “life’s most impressionable lessons are one’s where something bad happens to you or something challenging confronts you” but most importantly he said “nobody expects you to be perfect all the time, that’s impossible but what you are expected and expect from others is a perfect effort every time”. For me that’s the winning formula in any sport or activity.

So which team are you rooting for to progress to the next rounds; which team today is planning on standing tall..??

A NEW ERA

My friends and football lovers it’s been too long. It’s been a marvelous 2 months of the New Year and no league is making as much waves as the premiere league this season. Leicester city at the tip of everyone’s lips, opposition fans and neutrals alike.

Still at the top of the league Leicester has surprised the world of football. Is it sheer luck or sheer brilliance? Well with victories against top sides like Chelsea and Manchester City I’m tipping my scale towards brilliance.

But can they maintain this form and momentum till the final day? Or will they fumble starting with the loss over the weekend to Arsenal. Things are definitely changing though with Tottenham sitting at second spot and the likes of City and United losing again.

At other leagues the likes of Barcelona have set a new record with number of matches gone undefeated after drawing with Valencia and then trashing Celta Vigo with the pick of the match being the hatrick from Luis Suarez and the beauty of a penalty worked by Messi and dispatched by Suarez.

What is on everyone’s mind now is if they can retain the Champions league. Now that is a record that will put them on the stages of immortality.
