THE 2018/19 TITLE RACE HEATS UP!

With six games to play, Liverpool FC is sure on course to win their first premier league title since the inception of premier league on August 15, 1992.

The Reds have never won the title since the premier league era but the 2018/19 campaign is slowly looking like theirs for the taking.

With a last minute winner at the Anfield from Toby Alderweireld’s own goal (OG), Liverpool edged past Spurs to go two points clear of the defending champions Manchester City at the top of the table.

Although City has a game in hand, their last seven fixtures for the season include an away game to Crystal Palace who took all three points at the Etihad stadium earlier in the season.

Also, they have an away game at Old Trafford and if previous Manchester derbies are anything to go by, then it is surely not going to be an easy task for the defending champions.

City will also play Spurs three times this April, twice in the UEFA champion’s league and once in the premier league, that is surely going to take a lot from Pep Guardiola’s team.

Manchester City completes their games for the season with a home game against Cardiff, Leicester City, and two away games to Burnley and Brighton in no particular order.

On paper, City faces the most tasks as they seek to climb the uphill task of retaining their premier league title.

So far, the blue part of Manchester has done a pretty job of winning their games comfortably and with the depth of team they have, who knows, they might just spring up a surprise.

Liverpool on the other hand just has home games against Chelsea and Wolves as their most likely toughest fixtures as the season rounds up.

Inclusive in their six games to play is a trip to Southampton, Cardiff and Newcastle.

They will also host relegation bound Huddersfield on their way to the end of the season.

Liverpool alongside Manchester City are still in the quarter finals of the Champions league.

After winning the Carabo cup earlier in February, City is still in the running for all three competitions of FA cup, premier league and UEFA champions league.

With both top two teams having believed to have overcome their glitch periods, we can all countdown excitedly till May to see if there will be a crowning of new champions or an old champion retaining their crown.

It is already evident that neither of these two teams will make up to a hundred points like City last season but it is a small price to pay for the thrill and excitement this 2018/19 title campaign has offered.

At this stage, with Manchester City 14 points clear of Arsenal who are in third place, we may technically say that it is a two-horse race for the title..

Liverpool is currently on 79 points from 32 games, two points clear of Manchester City on 77 points from 31 games.

Also Arsenal have displaced Spurs in third with Unai Emery’s side moving ahead of United and Spurs to 63 points.

A lot of football pundits have stated that this might finally be Liverpool’s season, but Premier league has taught us over the years that sometimes we have to keep our fingers crossed till the very last fixture.

Are you rooting for Liverpool to win their first premier league title or for Manchester City to retain their title from last season?
